The 32-year-old woman from the previous case undergoes video capsule endoscopy to investigate the origin of occult gastrointestinal bleeding.

In patients younger than age 40 years, small bowel tumors are the most common cause of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.  In contrast, among patients older than age 40 years, vascular ectasias is more likely to be the source.
