Unintentional falls are the most common nonfatal injury that take Americans to a local emergency department (ED) according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

CDC estimates place the number of annual fall-related incidents at nearly 6 million. Coming in at number 18 and perhaps surpisingly, are unintentional injuries related to firearms which are responsible for approximately 27 000 ED visits each year.
