The 2% preparation of an allylamine antifungal is a new addition to the menu of available topical agents. It has the advantage of once-daily dosing and shorter course of therapy.
A 49-year-old man complained about mild itching and scaling on the foot, particularly at the base of the toes. His nails were intact.
Key points: Physical examination disclosed a classic example of tinea pedis (athlete’s foot). (See related article.) Any topical antifungal agent, used diligently for a long enough time, will clear this.
Treatment: After discussion of various options, the patient elected to apply nafitifine 2% cream once daily for 2 weeks. His rash resolved.
