Physiatrist Treats Performing Artists, a Population She Knows from Personal Experience

Physiatrist Tracy Espiritu McKay, DO, is chair of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation's Performing Arts Medicine Community and practices in New York, NY, where performing arts are integral to city culture. Patient Care® recently spoke with McKay to learn more about the types of performers she sees in daily practice, the most common injuries she treats, and how recovery from injury for a performance professional differs from that of a professional athlete, the other primary population she treats.


Tracy Espiritu McKay, DO, is clinical assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York where she specializes in Performing Arts Medicine and Integrative Sports and Spine Medicine at NYU Langone Health. She is also the chair of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation's Performing Arts Medicine Community.
