Answer: C. Drug-induced gingival hyperplasia

The patient has been taking phenytoin (Dilantin) 300 mg daily for approximately 6 years. Drug-induced gingival enlargement is the most recognized cause for this oral hyperplasia. Other causes include hereditary and metabolic disorders, such as fetal valproate syndrome. Gingival cancer should be ruled out.
