Immunization Levels Disheartening This Flu Season, Says William Schaffner, MD

The messages about vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 have been strong and consistent this year, however, the uptake of these vaccines in comparison to previous years has been disheartening, according to William Schaffner, MD. "We thought an updated COVID-19 vaccine booster would be widely accepted...and it's been really quite disappointing," said Dr Schaffner, a well-known infectious disease expert from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, in a recent interview with Patient Care Online.

Below, Dr Schaffner discusses in more detail.

William Schaffner, MD, is medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, professor of preventive medicine in the Department of Health Policy and professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN.
