With influenza season in full swing, the CDC does recommend continued vaccination with an appropriate flu vaccine. A number of options exist from a variety of manufacturers: trivalent, quadravalent, intradermal, high-dose, intranasal, “made” in egg, dog, or insect lines. All have different age indications leading to the potential for medical errors. Let’s look at 2 scenarios.

A 2-year-old child is given 0.25 cc of a flu vaccine NOT approved for use in children under the age of 3 years. (Sanofi’s Fluzone is the only approved inactivated flu vaccine for use under the age of 36 months.)
