Family-Centered Care: Key Pillar of the Pediatric Medical Home

"Like all pediatricians...we really understand that kind of intricate and extremely important relationship that patients, especially children, have with their support systems and for children, that's their families."

For children with disabilities, the exchange of information with families is essential to support goal development and to attaining those goals. Patient Care® recently asked pediatric rehabilitation physician Amy Houtrow, MD, PhD, MPH, to talk more about her approach to family-centered care.

Amy Houtrow, MD, PhD, MPH, is chief of pediatric rehabilitation medicine at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; endowed professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; and secretary of the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
