A Diabetes and Diet Update: 4 New Studies

This short slideshow highlights four new studies on eating habits that demonstrate how diet may affect patients’ health.

Primary care physicians who treat patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) are always looking for ways to help patients improve dietary habits. The 4 new studies summarized above show the potential impact of food choices on health:1. DM is less likely to develop in Americans who eat full-fat dairy products.2. Sweet taste receptors in the tongue and other organs may be a target for the treatment of type 2 DM.3. A very low-calorie diet may reverse DM.4. Adopting a healthy diet reduces the risk of hypertension among women with prior gestational DM.
