The objectives of a systematic review of the literature published in the September issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine were to reivew and assess the efficacy of medicinal cannabis for treating chronic pain and to provide a broad overview of short and long term physical and mental health effects of cannabis use in persons with chronic pain and in the general population. There were 27 chronic pain trials included in the analysis of use and efficacy of medical marijuana and 11 systematic reviews and 32 primary studies included in the effort to characterize harm attritubed to cannabis in the general population.
