Hesitancy about vaccination against dangerous communicable diseases remains a public health problem, particularly when the hesitant are living with immunocompromising conditions.
Survey found that among adults with chronic health conditions, 76% received the vaccine against influenza, 66% against COVID-19, and 26% against respiratory syncytial virus.
85% of the respondents said they feel positive about vaccines, but there were differences between supporting some or all immunizations.
Positive feelings about vaccination expressed by respondents included the roll it plays in protecting the community from illness, the stature of the research behind their development, and the fact that they save lives.
Reasons for hesitation about receiving vaccines included adverse reactions in the past to vaccination and distrust of government, public health officials, and pharmaceutical companies.
Health care professionals remain the most trusted source of information on vaccines and vaccine safety, according to the survey results.
People with chronic conditions are concerned about their access to vaccines in the future as well as overall availability and affordability.
